BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sean Slovenski, senior vice president and president of health and wellness for Walmart U.S., is leaving the company.

“We are excited to continue building and expanding on what he created at Walmart,” Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner wrote in a memo to staff Tuesday night. The company will name a new health and wellness leader in coming weeks, he said.

Slovenski, who joined the retailer two years ago, has been overseeing the rollout of Walmart Health centers. The company has opened four of the facilities — which feature an array of low-cost primary medical services, dental care and behavioral health services — in Georgia and Arkansas. It recently announced it will bring the concept to Florida early next year.

“Walmart Health offers low, transparent pricing for key health care services, regardless of insurance status,” Slovenski blogged in announcing the Florida entry.  “This is especially important for communities that lack access to affordable health care, which we know is an unfortunate reality for so many right now.

“The combined crises of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic recession and subsequent loss of health insurance for millions of Americans have reinforced the vulnerabilities of our health care system.”

Slovenski formerly served as president of the population health division for Healthways, one of the nation’s largest population health and wellness companies. He also was CEO of Care Innovations, an Intel-GE joint venture company, and was vice president of Innovation at Humana.
